Reiki for Princess and Koko
By Susan Garrioch
This is a story about a wonderful horse called Princess and her buddy Koko.
Princess produced many wonderful, friendly foals for me. Koko, who is
presently 22 years old has been her friend for many years.
I sold Princess about three years ago, to what I had thought was a good
home. All was well until I received a dreaded phone call last December
2005, to say she had injured her eye and the people could no longer care for
her and her current foal. Without even going to see them I arranged for them to
be picked up, and was shocked by what I found. Princess’ left eye was so
infected that the eyeball had shrunk and receded back into the socket.
After many months of care I moved Princess to be with her buddy Koko. It
was instant friendship again and the two are still inseparable. Princess
had her eye removed under the watchful supervision of Koko who insisted
that she remain by her side during the procedure. The surgery went well
and that evening I went to see them in their pasture and for the first time
asked Princess if she would like some Reiki. I was astonished at the
results- you have to remember that I am new to the wonders of Reiki.
Princess had been traumatized to the point that she had become vicious
sometimes, due to pain, but as soon I offered Reiki she has never looked
back. I offered Reiki to Princess daily for about a month and now offer
it about twice a week or more if she wants it. She has turned into a "Reiki
Junkie" and isn't happy walking in from the field unless I have my hand on
her neck.
Koko, who has cancer and is very arthritic, had shown no interest in Reiki until
about a week after Princess had her surgery. Koko was looking at me and so
I asked her if she would like some Reiki. Koko stood looking
at me and from a distance, I offered her Reiki. After about five minutes
she started to sway from side to side and she buckled at the knees but did
not lie down. The reaction she had was scary but I persisted as long as
she wanted to accept what I was offering. At the end of the treatment she stretched as I
have never seen her do before, arched her back and then looked at me and
walked off. Koko will now step between Princess and myself to get some
Reiki when she feels she needs it. I have had Koko since she was three years
old, and we have formed a special bond which has been enhanced thanks to
Reiki.
I can’t express the feeling I have being alone with my two best friends and
being able to offer them something so simple as Reiki yet so powerful. I
have had similar occurances with hummingbirds who seem to follow me
wherever I go, especially when I am offering Reiki.
