Reiki for Romeo

April May June 2010

By Mary Barrett

Today I had a Reiki session with a Friesian named Romeo. As I often experience, it was amazing. This was our first time together. He was in a paddock with five other horses. He came right over to the fence. I was standing right up against it reaching in with my open hands. Romeo was very sweet, licking my hands and nibbling my fingers with his teeth. He looked at me for long periods of time with a great deal of intention. He kept his head between my hands.

I knew that he didn't want me to touch him and I told him that I had no expectations of him. He could touch me if he wanted. Soon he started moving his head from one hand to the other. Just touching with his whiskers, hesitantly. This was very delicate and energetic. He seemed to me like a young boy in a very large powerful body. I noticed the swirl of hair between his eyes and the thought came that this was his third eye. At that point he leaned his forehead into my left palm. He kept it there for a long time. He then began to move his head back and forth from between my hands, then resting his forehead in my palm. He paused for a time at each place.

After about a half hour, Romeo moved his head closer and closer to mine. I was resting my chin on the fence rail. He got in as close as he could. I leaned my head in as far as I could. Our foreheads were almost touching. He stayed with me like this for what seemed to me a very long time. Romeo held me in his world of the present moment. I lifted my eyes and head just a tiny bit so I could see him. I was spellbound. There aren't any words that can convey what was occurring between us. Or what Romeo was giving me. We were in a state of communion. A holy place.
