Reiki and a Mare's Amazing Recovery

January February March 2010

A Case Study by Louise Nick, with comments from Jennifer Golik

Louise Nick: I am an Animal Reiki Practitioner and Animal Communicator. I was contacted by Ms. Golik in May of 2009, regarding her mare Betty.

Jennifer Golik: After starting my new mare Betty’s show training when she was 2.5 year old, she continuously came up lame. After contacting Ms. Nick for Reiki treatments in May of 2009, Betty told her that her knee was hurting.

Louise: I was unable to visit the my client in person until a few days later, so I did an initial 60-minute Reiki distant treatment after the phone call. During the treatment, I experienced pain in my right knee, and telepathically, the mare kept showing me a picture of her right front knee. I called Ms. Golik after the treatment, in order to give her the feedback.

Jennifer: Within a week I got her x rayed and the results were devastating: The x-ray showed serious arthritis, so much so that the vet suggested turning her out to be a pasture pet. When I asked if I could do walk, trot or use her as a brood mare, the vet stated: “This mare will not be able to carry any extra weight. On a usage scale from 1-10, with 1 being not usable, her usage right now is a 1. If you can’t afford a pasture pet, you should consider euthanasia to avoid her being sold to a meat buyer if you ever give her away.”

This was devastating to me, so I called another vet and he confirmed that my mare’s show career was over. In fact, my second vet had never seen such damage in as young of a horse before. He suggested turning the mare out for several months to finish growing and give the knee time to hopefully improve. In the meantime, Ms. Nick did regular Reiki with Betty.

Louise: After the second veterinarian had examined Betty, Ms. Golik contacted me about further Reiki treatments. I visited the stable and gave a 1.5 hour Reiki treatment to Betty in her stall. During that treatment, I did not touch the mare but stood in the corner of her stall, allowing her to come as close as she felt comfortable to do. Betty stayed about three feet away from me, facing me the entire time, with her head low and deeply relaxed.

I followed up with three more distance treatments on consecutive days, each lasting 45-60 minutes. I continued with two treatments per week until August, at which point treatments were reduced to once a week, until November. All but one of those treatments were distance treatments, and each treatment lasted between 45-60 minutes. In November, Ms. Golik had Betty re-examined. Since then, I have continued with Distance Reiki treatments for Betty on a monthly basis.

Jennifer: During the first three months of turnout, I noticed the bump on her knee was changing, getting smaller.

I had her knee re-x-rayed in November. The vet took six shots of the knee and to his and my astonishment, Betty’s knee was virtually healed. She flexed out 100% sound, and the x-rays showed no damage whatsoever. My vet stated: “This is the most remarkable thing I have ever seen. If I had not seen the prior x-rays, I would not believe this is the same horse. I have never seen a recovery like this in 30 years of practice. Maybe it wasn’t arthritis after all, but just calcification.” Whatever it was, as of January of this year, I have been riding Betty 3-5 times per week, and she is still sound.

I believe that Reiki has healed my mare.

About The Author:

About Louise Nick: Louise practices Animal Reiki and Animal Communication and has a strong interest in holistic healing modalities, particularly energy and sound. While working as an OR technician and attending college in 1993, she also took courses in Jin Shin Do and Jin Shin Tara, but when she was introduced to Reiki, she knew she had found the method she had been searching for. After completing Reiki Level III training with Susanne Weiss in 1995, Louise wanted to build a career as a Reiki practitioner and Animal Communicator but began to have doubts that she could sustain a practice, as both fields still seemed to be quite “out there” at the time. She therefore decided to follow a conventional career path and pursued another passion of hers – teaching. Louise received a Bachelor’s degree in German and Spanish, and a Master’s Degree in Teaching from Western Washington University and went to work in public schools in Washington State. In the meantime, she found an outlet for her love of Reiki and animals by continuing to practice Reiki with friends, family, animals, and plants and communicate with animals in homes and out in nature. In 2009, Louise realized it was finally time to change careers and do what she loved most. She formalized her training by completing courses in Animal Reiki with Kathleen Prasad and in Animal Communication with Mary Getten, and she is currently transitioning from public school teaching to her new profession as Animal Reiki Practitioner and Animal Communicator.
