The Call of the Wild

A Project by Brenda Oakley-Carter

This project started when my father, Ted Carter, rang and told me how upset he was after watching a wildlife program. The thing that upset him the most was the fact that he might see the extinction of the tiger in his lifetime, which he never thought could happen. He then read me a poem he'd written to try to express his concern and sadness. It was very moving and I asked him to post it to us so my husband who's been a guitarist for 25 years, could put it to music. We then needed someone to sing it and asked an incredible rock singer called David Millard who we knew from a music site. He said 'yes' and the result is a powerful and very moving song called "Call Of The Wild".

Our local papers have done articles about it and we also want to
encourage schools and clubs to have "Call Of the Wild" days just to
raise awareness in the generation who are really going to have to deal
with the problems coming in the next 20 years.

ALL profits are going to:

Born Free Foundation (founded by Virginia Mckenna)
http://www.davidshepherd.org/index2.shtml

David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation

Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society

They are smaller wildlife charities which work very hard, do so much
and are very, very passionate about saving animals, people, land&sea
under threat.

Here are the lyrics:

Call Of The Wild

Who will hear the final tiger roaring in the night
Who will see the final eagle soaring out of sight,
Polar bears swim where the ice floes used to be,
How long before we lose our harvest from the sea?

Jungle forests dying under chain saws and the flame,
Soil turns to dust, the earth will never be the same,
Every new road built points straight to where trees stand,
Concrete is covering up the purest, greenest land.

Air we breathe where will it come from, water fit to drink,
The human race should pause and take some time to think,
Riches of the world for us can be found anywhere,
There will be a limit now, we should use them with all due care.

Do you hear the call of the wild, it's within you,
Can you feel of the wild, with every sinew,
Can we hear the call of the wild, it's within you,
Can you feel the call of the wild, it's within all of us.

Can you feel it now,
Can you feel the call of the wild....

Can you feel the call of the wild, beating within you, It's within
you.........................................

Can you feel the call of the wild,
Can you feel it within.

Anything you can do to help us raise awareness and make money for these critically endangered animals would be extremely appreciated.

About the Author:  Brenda Oakley-Carter has been a reflexologist for 13 years and a Reiki practitioner for 7, becoming a Reiki master in December last year. She says, "I have had so much energy and so many ideas since then, about how to get this song out there to raise
awareness and money for our critically endangered animals. I started
practicing Reiki professionally on animals last May (after reading
Kathleen's book!) and have loved every minute - so have they!! I
also do volunteer work regularly at an animal rescue centre. I am so
blessed as my work doesn't ever feel like work and seeing people and animals getting better (sometimes before my very eyes!) is just so rewarding." She resides in England with her husband and son, and can be reached at bb-carter@lineone.net.
