Max-a-Million

I first met Max in March of 2006. I had just begun offering Reiki to the animals at Animals In Distress in Coopersburg, PA near where I work. The staff at the shelter was open to Reiki as the kennel manager had been attuned to Reiki Level 1 some years earlier, but they weren't too sure what to do with me and Reiki. They chose two dogs for me to start with: Amigo and Max. Both had been recently diagnosed with lymphosarcoma. Amigo is a Husky- Chow mix who has been at the shelter for a number of years. Max was a Scottish Terrier, all black and full of energy.

Message from Belle

Belle is a beautiful 7-year old Golden Retriever/ Pyrenese mix adopted from the Humane Society who turned out to have allergies resulting in fur loss and rashes. Her human caretaker, Marty, has worked with their veterinarian trying different medications and variations in diet which have helped for awhile, but the loss of fur and rashes always returned. Marty felt Reiki might help and called me.

Saving Sparky

Over 5 years ago our dog, a lab-mix named Sparky, was chasing a deer at night when he suffered a very grave injury falling off of an embankment. He immediately suffered great pain and confusion; he couldn't walk due to the paralysis of his rear limbs. By morning, he had both bowel and bladder incontinence. We took him to his vet, who diagnosed a spinal cord injury. He gave a very guarded prognosis if we followed up with an MRI and emergency neurosurgeon to relieve the pressure from the bulging disk in his back. If we didn't, the vet said it was only merciful to put him down. My son was heartbroken; we agreed we couldn't put him down immediately, so we took the dog home.

A Horse Named Moe

Beginning in April of this year, I have had the privilege of sharing Reiki with a nine year old horse name Moe - he has a more formal name but I don't know what it is. To me he is Moe. He has shared himself with me in the most sacred and beautiful ways since he has let me into his life. I have always loved horses, but I hadn't been around them since my teens. I was asked if I would offer Reiki to Moe by his human companion after she had received several Reiki treatments from me and I had given her Kathleen's book to read. Moe was bucking her off every time she tried to ride him. Unfortunately, Moe had received considerable abuse at his former home related to his dressage training.

Reiki with an Owl Finch

For one of my homework assignments for Kathleen's Animal Reiki Workshop, I decided I would like to work with a wild animal. Since I live in a well populated area, I headed for the zoo. I arrived shortly after they opened and the weather was windy and cold so I knew there would not be many people around yesterday. Even though I had visions of working with a big animal like an elephant, lion or giraffe, I tried to keep my mind open to working with any animal that would like Reiki. I decided I would walk most of the zoo and then return to the animal hat I felt was most open to me.

Book Excerpt: Your Reiki Treatment

Note from Kathleen: Bronwen and Frans' new book, Your Reiki Treatment, is a wonderful and thorough exploration of the Reiki experience, which not only is a great introduction to the benefits of Reiki for "newbies", but also a resource that I recommend to all professional Reiki practitioners. It discusses all aspects of treatments, including things to consider before, during, and after giving and/or receiving Reiki. In the following excerpt, the Stienes explore the secret world of animals used in "healing" research. It is a difficult subject, but one I hope we all keep in mind-- as we strive to see Reiki become an "accepted" healing method in the scientific community, this is truly an unacceptable means by which to attain such acceptance!

Book Excerpt: Creating an Abundant Practice

A note from Kathleen: I'm so happy to share the following excerpt from Andrea Adler's book, Creating an Abundant Practice. When I was first starting out professionally as an Animal Reiki Practitioner, I took one of Andrea's workshops and found this book (and the workshop!) to be so helpful in forming the core ideas of my business. It's so important to have clarity and a vision from your heart as you step forward with your Animal Reiki business, in addition to smart business strategies, and I recommend Andrea's book as a great melding of the practical and the spiritual aspects of business.

The DrDoMore Project

The DrDomore project is a documentary series and website that will empower the consumer to know that there are options and choices for the health care of their pets. By having qualified and experienced veterinarians that have been trained in integrative veterinary therapies the film project will educate the viewer on all the different modalities and treatments that could benefit their animals. Many times when a client is at a conventional veterinary clinic the veterinarian has limited options because their exposure into alternative treatments is not existent. Every animal and person deserves choices and if a practitioner has limited exposure to other treatment plans then these options are not offered and therefore treatment is incomplete.
