Welcome!

Happy Spring, Animal Reiki Readers. Welcome to the latest issue of the newsletter. This issue is jam- packed with healing information and inspiration. Thanks and gratitude to all the beautiful individuals who shared their Animal Reiki stories!

The first four articles are wonderful stories I know you will enjoy, including Reiki for a horse, cat, snakes and a bunny. The fifth article is an excerpt from my latest book about feral cats. The next article is a beautiful fundraising project by a fellow Animal Reiki practitioner in England. I've also included two recommended books: Tails of a Healer and Soul of a Horse. Both are inspirational, and although the second isn't a Reiki book persay, I think you'll find it very familiar in its approach towards horses. I'm also honored to include a special article by my teachers at the International House of Reiki: a historical look at the system of Reiki that I'm sure you will enjoy! And finally, don't miss the last two articles in this issue, which detail the Reiki horse Remington (his smile will surely win your heart) and the benefits of Reiki for Shelter Animals (which will surely inspire you to approach your local shelter to offer Reiki!).

In other news, I'm sure most of you have heard by now that I am filming an Animal Reiki Video at the end of this month. I'm just giddy about this project:) I will be in touch later this summer with more information about ordering and such!

On a personal note, I'd like to thank my students and yahoo group who have been sending Reiki for my dog Dakota. I am happy to say that he is back to his good ole' self!! I am cherishing each and every day we have together. With Reiki, all things are possible:)

Please visit the Share Your Stories section below to find out about contributing to a future newsletter. Your experiences with animals and Reiki will help and inspire others!

A New Perspective

When I offered to do Reiki for the horses at my neighbor's boarding and rehab farm Wendy's response was, "Thanks, but all my horses are in good shape." Then she hesitated. "Well, there is one that could certainly use something." Then she told me the story of the 13-year-old Warmblood mare, a dressage horse with anxiety issues, who had been in her care for about six months, having been referred from another farm that couldn't handle her.

Stub is a Reiki cat. He loves hands-on treatments and soaking up energy during classes and Reiki Shares. Recently he had a healing crisis. Before telling his story, let me introduce him to you. Stub was a shelter cat. When he arrived at the shelter he was in bad physical shape including having a mangled tail. The vet tried to save it but in the end had to amputate part of it.

Reiki for Snakes

My first experience with snakes and Reiki happened the first day I got attuned with Reiki 1. I was overflowing with enthusiasm and my hands were oversensitive and reacted to every creature around me. At the end off this exhausting day and after giving Reiki to some of my animals, I settled down in front of the computer to check e-mails. As I scrolled through the mail I felt a very strong flow of energy. I looked around but there was no dog or cat in the room... Where was it coming from? Still looking around the room my eyes hit the terrarium next to my computer desk. Inside lives a beautiful red and black Mexican milk snake named "Scarlet".

The Miracle Bunny

It was a beautiful warm May morning; Spring was definitely in the air. I decided to take advantage of the weather to take my two miniature schnauzers for a walk. It was a lovely walk despite the dogs pulling on their leashes and barking at all the squirrels and birds. As we headed toward home, I noticed something lying in the grass right by the curb. At first I thought it was a rag but then I noticed a little head that popped up. About this time my dogs noticed it too and began straining on their leashes even more. I managed to get them home and I went back to investigate.

Reiki for Feral Cats: Book Excerpt

One of the wonderful things about Reiki is that it can be given from a distance. Thus, it works well with any animal, whether tame, wild, or somewhere in between, as is sometimes the case when treating rescues. In addition, when the Reiki treatment is approached in a way that gives the animal choice, in my experience animals almost always choose to receive the healing that Reiki can offer.

The Call of the Wild: Project

This project started when my father, Ted Carter, rang and told me how upset he was after watching a wildlife program. The thing that upset him the most was the fact that he might see the extinction of the tiger in his lifetime, which he never thought could happen. He then read me a poem he'd written to try to express his concern and sadness. It was very moving and I asked him to post it to us so my husband who's been a guitarist for 25 years, could put it to music. We then needed someone to sing it and asked an incredible rock singer called David Millard who we knew from a music site. He said 'yes' and the result is a powerful and very moving song called "Call Of The Wild".

Tails of a Healer: Book Excerpt

Since my move last November, I have had many occasions to give thanks to the universe for finding me a very special apartment and geographic location to live in. All of my animals and I now live in West Seattle. Not just any part of West Seattle, mind you, but a very unusual environment, that place of possibility between worlds, where land meets water. It is said that it is there that magic can happen, in those places balanced on the knife edge between the spirit world and the "real" world.

Soul of a Horse: Review

Those of us who grew up in the 70s, like me, have warmed to the mind and heart of Joe Camp a long time ago: remember Benji? Joe Camp produced, directed and distributed this movie himself! He's a natural intuitive with dogs--and now we can add horses to that list! In his latest project, the just- released book, The Soul of a Horse, Joe takes the reader on a journey: a journey where your intuition is your guide and the horse is your teacher.

Lessons from the Memorial Stone

The memorial stone was erected by a Japanese Reiki society called the Usui Reiki Ryôhô Gakkai in 1927, one year after the founder of Reiki's death. The founder's name is Usui Mikao. Engraved with old Japanese kanji, the memorial stone stands in the peaceful grounds of the Saihoji temple in Tokyo.
